Featured Question: If God is a God of love, why does He allow innocent people to die?
Answer: First, we should explain here that we're talking about two different kinds of death. There's physical, temporal death that results in the separation of the soul from the body. But then there's spiritual, eternal death that is the separation of the soul from God and heaven.
Second, we must admit that God is a God of love…. and He does allow the Innocent to die. It should be noted that happened only once in history. Two thousand years ago, God allowed His innocent Son to die to redeem, or buy back, sinful humankind. Q: But how about the 'other' innocent people
A: Although it is fashionable to talk about people being "innocent", the pages of the newspaper tell us otherwise. From our perspective, there are many good people. But God isn't comparing us to each other; He's comparing us to Himself. And when compared to God's holiness, even the best of people look pretty bad. The Bible is quite right when it says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (Romans 3:23)
The reality is, other than Jesus, there is no one who is "innocent." We all need to be saved. God knew that we sinners are absolutely incapable of saving themselves. So that they might be forgiven, Jesus became the sacrifice for sin. The prophet Isaiah wrote: "...He (Jesus) was wounded for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5) The fact that any of us can be saved at all is the great miracle of history. Q: Why would God do such a thing?
A: The Bible answers that in passages like Ephesians 2: 8, 9. There it says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
